Days Out

During the holidays we offer a fun selection of activity days where we take a mini-bus to a location in or just outside London for the day.
All people with disabilities must be accompanied unless using one of our respite services. If you wish to use our respite service, please see details under our Carer and Respite menu.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

HIGH ASHURST ADVENTURE CENTRE

High Ashurst is an outdoor activity education centre in an area of outstanding natural beauty and sits in 56 acres of woodland. We normally arrange a morning and an afternoon session of adventurous inclusive and adapted activities. These may include climbing and abseiling (both with hoist as required), orienteering, team games and off-road wheelchair trails. The instructors have extensive experience of working with learning disabilities from mild to severe/complex needs and make each activity fun for everyone.

Our groups are small to ensure everyone has plenty of time to enjoy the activities and you can do as little or as much as you want. Carers are encouraged to join in too! We ask you to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink on the day.

SPEEDBOAT RIDES

THAMES ROCKETS SPEEDBOAT RIDES

Thames Rockets are the original speedboat sightseeing cruise on the river Thames where you can see and hear about all the famous London sights for the ultimate London adventure. We charter our own boat for exclusive use by Activity Station for a 50 minute ride including a high speed tour around the docklands, which the skipper and crew can adapt and change to suit the needs of those in our group – e.g. to go slowly. We board the boat at the pier next to the London Eye after we get kitted up following a safety briefing.
After the ride we relax in Jubilee Gardens (or shelter nearby if it is raining) for lunch by the riverside, and if there is time, we enjoy a walk that takes in the sights and sounds of the South Bank. Our groups are small to ensure everyone has plenty of time to enjoy the activities and places are limited. We ask you to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink on the day.

BOAT CRUISES

PRIVATE THAMES BOAT CRUISES

We book a private boat to have a fun day out on the river. We will be cruising on the river Thames in a small, private group offering a relaxing environment in a specially adapted boat that also caters for wheelchair users.

There will be activities on board or you can just enjoy the wildlife and hear about the places we see along the way. We ask you to bring a packed lunch.

HORSE CARRIAGE RIDE

CARRIAGE RIDE AND SAVILL GARDEN

A fantastic day out to the beautiful and enchanting Savill Garden near Windsor and a chance to experience and enjoy a half hour horse carriage ride around Windsor Great Park with Ascot Great Carriages.  Before the carriage rides begin we have a chance to to enjoy the gardens. The rides begin at 12.30pm taking four people at a time. While participants await their turn  there’s a chance to enjoy a group picnic lunch and relax in the woodlands and rose garden. We regret that the horse carriage is not wheelchair accessible, and riders will need to remain seated for the 30 minute ride around the park.

BUGGY RIDE IN HYDE PARK

TOUR OF HYDE PARK WITH LIBERTY DRIVES

Come and have a tour on these fun, accessible electric buggies with Liberty Drives which we book exclusively for Activity Station. Glide along the 780 acres of Hyde Park and hear about the history of Kensington Palace and Gardens. The ride is approximately 1 hour but can be adapted to the needs of the group on each buggy – Liberty Drives are very experienced with people with disabilities and are very flexible. After the ride we relax for lunch by the Serpentine, and if time, enjoy a walk, boating or just chill to enjoy watching the world go by.  Our groups are small to ensure everyone has plenty of time to enjoy the activities and places are limited. (Please note that if it is raining heavily on the day, we will not be able to go – we will advise you first thing, by email or telephone. If we have to cancel and will refund your ticket. We ask you to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink on the day.

ZOO VISIT

LONDON ZOO

Our trip to London Zoo is a wonderful experience for people with all needs and abilities. The zoo is more than 170 years old and contains many old buildings however the zoo is accessible for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties and there are ramps, lifts and tarmac paths to most buildings. There are accessible toilets and a Changing Places toilet. Our groups are small to ensure everyone has plenty of time to enjoy the activities and places are limited. We ask you to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink on the day. The 12 metre squared facility is equipped with a ceiling track hoist, a height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench, a height adjustable washbasin and a peninsular toilet. It is secured with a RADAR key. If you aren’t able to bring one, it is available from the First Aid post – located between Barclay Court and the Main Entrance – as well as staff working at Animal Adventure.
